The issue sits close to home for Darryl, with his dad having undergone a number of bowel cancer treatments and an operation following a diagnosis in June 2017. Having seen the effects of the cancer – which is the second biggest killer in the UK – on his dad and those close to him, he wanted to promote the life-changing work of Bowel Cancer UK.
In the UK, someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer every 15 minutes. It is the fourth most common cancer in the UK with around 268,000 people living with the disease.
Darryl said: “The generosity of all those in attendance at the Summer Gala was astonishing and the event is something I feel very proud of.” Darryl also adds thanks on behalf of QualitySolicitors Davisons to a whole host of local Solihull businesses for getting behind the gala, including sponsors Barratt Homes, Move Reports, G2, Haslehurst Accountants, Mike Knight & Son Autos, and Graypaul Birmingham for helping to make the event as successful as it was.
Bowel Cancer UK representative Helen Darrington added: “It’s great to hear you had a fantastic fundraising evening recently and thank you so much for all the money you have raised so far – we really do appreciate your support.”
The Summer Gala was a key fundraising event on the calendar, but Darryl is also taking on the notoriously challenging Ironman Wales 2018 on 9 September in the hope to raise even more. The event includes a 2.4 mile sea swim, a 112 mile hill bike ride, followed by a marathon to finish. “I am hoping that the severity of the event will help people dig deep for sponsorship,” Darryl added.
The ultimate fundraising goal is £5,000, so people are still being encouraged to donate. To show your support to Darryl and support Bowel Cancer UK, chip in what you can at justgiving.com/fundraising/darrylironman.
