Personal injury solicitors

If you have suffered an injury that was someone else’s fault, then you may be entitled to compensation. Our friendly, knowledgeable personal injury solicitors can also help you access any support and medical care you need.

What types of injury can I claim for?

There are many types of personal injury claims. Davisons Law are experts in a range of areas, including:

What information do I need to make a personal injury claim?

When you have suffered a personal injury, you should report it to whoever you think was responsible as soon as possible.

You should gather as much evidence as you can. Make a note of when and where the accident happened and who you believe was responsible. Take the names and addresses of any witnesses, take photographs of where the incident took place and car registration numbers if applicable.

If you are planning to claim compensation, keep receipts for any expenses incurred due to the incident or injury, such as travel costs to hospital and the cost of prescriptions.

Usually, you will need to see a medical expert who will write a report about the extent of your injury. Our personal injury solicitors can arrange this and help you collate all the evidence you need to make your claim.

Is there a time limit for personal injury claims?

You usually have three years from the date of the incident to make a personal injury claim formally at court. In some circumstances, it can be three years from the ‘date of knowledge’ – the date your illness or injury was diagnosed or discovered.

There are exceptions to the three-year time limit. For example, if you were under 18 when the personal injury occurred, you have until your 21st birthday to make a claim. Your personal injury solicitor will be able to advise you about this and other exceptions to the three-year rule.

How long do personal injury claims take?

This varies depending on many factors such as the complexity of the injuries sustained by you and whether the Defendant (the person believed to be responsible for the accident) admits liability. Straightforward road accident claims can be settled in as little as 4-6 months.

If the Defendant does not admit liability for the accident, the claim may take longer than if they do admit liability. In the event an agreement cannot be reached with the Defendant as to whether they are responsible or how much the claim is worth, then it may be necessary to go to court.

How much compensation can I claim?

The amount of compensation you will receive depends upon the severity of your injury and the long-term prognosis. Our personal injury solicitors can give you an estimate based on your individual circumstances.

How much compensation you are awarded depends upon the impact the Injury has had and will continue to have on the quality of your life both now and in the future. Any loss of income and potential loss of income, travel costs for attending medical appointments, the costs of home adaptations and medication, and the impact the injury has had on your daily activities are just some of the aspects considered.

When you talk to us during your initial consultation, we will be able to give you a clearer indication of the compensation you can expect to receive if your claim is successful. However, this is not a guarantee, and any estimate may increase or decrease as the case progresses.

Can you take over my claim from my existing solicitors?

If you already have a personal injury compensation claim ongoing and you are unhappy with the way your current solicitors are handling it, our initial advice would be to raise your concerns with them first.

However, we are happy to offer a second opinion and decide whether we will be able to help you.

If you do decide to transfer your case to us, our personal injury team will contact your solicitors on your behalf and take care of the necessary arrangements to transfer your file over to us.
